Stafford favourite moves on

Fans favourite, striker Dan Cope has left Stafford Rangers and returned to fellow Evo Stik division one South rivals Leek Town.

It was just over two years ago that Cope moved to Marston Road from Leek and last season he finished top scorer with 21 goals, including the winner at Vale Park as Rangers lifted the Staffs Senior Cup against old club.

Cope's goal tally last term was impressive, despite the fact that 18 of his 47 appearances were after coming off the bench.

However, the start of this season has again seen Cope among the substitutes after Rangers boss Neil Kitching added to his striking options by bringing in experienced former Halesowen marksman Ben Haseley. Cope is expected to get an early chance against Rangers when Leek visit Stafford on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

While one forward has moved on, Kitching has signed 18-year-old Port Vale striker Jonathan Kapend on loan for a month. Kapend came through the Vale Academy and signed his first professional contract this summer.

Today (Saturday) Rangers are in FA Cup preliminary round action against Coleshill, at Marston Road.
