Robbie signs up for a Las Vegas residency

The singer will follow in the footsteps of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Calvin Harris and more stars to perform a run of solo shows from March 2019 on the city’s famous strip.

Robbie said: “I’m beyond excited to announce my first ever residency in Las Vegas.

"To follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest entertainers of all time is a dream come true - I can’t wait.”

The 18-time BRIT Award winner has sold 57 million albums and 11 million singles worldwide - but is far from a household name in the states.

His songs Angels, Millennium and Rock DJ made it into the charts there only after his compilation album, The Ego Has Landed, was released in 1999.

Robbie, who drew a 375,000 strong crowd in 2003 at Knebworth, has only ever played a number of small venues in the US and said back in 2013 that he'd given up trying to crack the American music market.

He said: "The album sold one million copies. That was not bad. But I don't want to work that hard. I've concluded not to try it again."

The news comes after his FIFA World Cup opening ceremony show earlier this year and his appointment as a judge on The X Factor alongside wife Ayda Field.

Nile Rodgers was seen standing in for former Take That singer on the panel on the weekend - while he completed the final leg of The Heavy Entertainment Show Tour in South America.

However, he was forced to cancel his gig in Buenos Aires because of "terrible weather" and told fans he was "absolutely gutted."

His hectic tour schedule forced X Factor bosses to record the show last Saturday night so he could catch a flight that evening.

It ended in disaster when the show was hit with embarrassing technical difficulties.
