Corrie favourite set to return

Producer Kate Oates has confirmed Alison King will be returning to the cobbles later this year.

The revelation is made in a special shoot and interview featured in the latest issue of the Radio Times, which sees the ladies of the cobbles dolled up for glamorous snaps.

In the interview, Kate teases Alison will reprise her role as Carla Connor this Christmas.

Kate explains: "Ever since I got here, it’s been rumoured that Carla’s coming back. But it was never true.

Kate explains: "Ever since I got here, it’s been rumoured that Carla’s coming back. But it was never true.

"Even the latest indications of it. Ali has only just signed her contract and she’ll be back around Christmas."

She continued: "It’s time to break new ground with Carla. I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.

"What we’ll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It’ll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see."

Alison, 44, played Carla for nine years but left in 2016 to “pursue other projects”.

Show sources revealed Alison would return at the end of the year after executive producer Kate Oates begged her to come back.

One told the Sun on Sunday: “Carla is a hugely popular character with viewers, and Kate always felt it was a shame Ali left. So when the opportunity to talk to her came up, she was delighted.

“For a few months now they have been in secret talks and the word among the cast is that Ali has agreed.”
