Witness appeal after necklaces snatched in street robberies

Police investigating three robberies involving necklaces being pulled off women want to trace a van driver who chased after the offender.

A person has now been arrested on suspicion of theft after what police describe as three identical robberies which all happened on Thursday 29 September in Burntwood, Lichfield and Norton Caines.

In each case, the offender ran up to the female victim, grabbed the necklace from around her neck and then ran off.

But witnesses told that, when it happened on St John Street in Lichfield town centre, a courier van stopped and the driver got out and actually chased after the offender.

He then came back, saying he had seen the suspect jump into a waiting blue Audi which then drove off.

Police said they now want to speak to speak to the courier van driver, whom they say could have key evidence regarding all three robberies.

Detectives would like the driver, or anyone who might know him, to ring Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 368 of 29 September.
