War victims from Bosnia remembered in Stoke-on-Trent

Thousands of people killed in a small town in Bosnia are being remembered in Stoke-on-Trent today.

It is 24 years since 8,000 mainly Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered in Srebrenica.

During the course of the conflict that took place in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990's, between 20,000 and 50,000 women were raped.

The YMCA North Staffordshire, alongside the Remembering Srebenica Charity, will hold a 5th annual Srebenica memorial at the YMCA in Hanley.

Aida Haughton, a Bosnian war survivor said: "As an organisation that works with young people, we feel it is vital to commemorate Srebrenica to take a stand against hatred and discrimination that targets groups based on their religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or any type of difference.
