Stoke City call for lengthy banning orders

Stoke City have this morning called for lengthy banning orders for any fans convicted of disorder following last night's Potteries derby.

Eleven people aged between 18 and 61 were arrested for a mixture of public order and violence offences.

A Stoke City spokesperson said: “The actions of a minority of the crowd at last night’s Checkatrade Trophy game against Port Vale were deplorable.

“Where this behaviour involved so-called supporters of Stoke City we will be working closely with Staffordshire Police and Port Vale to bring the culprits to justice.

“We will be pushing for anyone found guilty of disorder on the night to be handed a lengthy football banning order.”

Staffordshire Police say of 11 men arrested, two have been charged with using threatening or abusive language, six have been released under investigation pending further enquiries, one's been issued with a community resolution and two have been released with no further action.
