Police issue warning over clown craze

Police in Staffordshire and Cheshire are warning against dressing up as clowns and frightening people.

The forces say they are aware of the craze, where groups of people are taking to wearing clown costumes and then walking around late at night.

Officers have received reports from people relating to 'incidents'in the two counties, and are warning about the impact it is having on some people.

Bosses say that their presence can intimidate those who come across the clowns, and that scaring people – especially children and vulnerable people – in this way is unacceptable and could constitute an offence.

Anyone who sees any suspicious clown activity, or who has been intimidated or upset by this behaviour, is asked to call 101.
