Staffordshire cancer nurse wins national award

A Stafforshire nurse has been recognised for her commitment to patients.

Rebecca Elwell, Macmillan Lymphoedema ANP & Team Leader, has won the prestigious British Journal of Nursing (BJN) Chronic Oedema Nurse of the Year.

The BJN Awards recognise and showcase nursing excellence and celebrate the individuals going above and beyond in delivering their care.

The Award celebrates Chronic Oedema and Lipoedema practitioners who have made an outstanding contribution in their clinical practice, geographical region, or area of research.

Rebecca was presented with the honour at a ceremony in London.

She said: “I am truly honoured to have received this award. Hopefully we can continue to raise the profile of both chronic oedema and the lymphoedema service at UHNM to assist in health care professionals recognising this little known condition and help more patients access prompt and early treatment".

Julie Cumberlidge, Matron at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, said: “I was very privileged to attend this event with Rebecca and see her pick up this well-deserved award, the Cancer Centre are so lucky to have her in the team.

"Her passion for her speciality and rapport with her patients is infectious and she regularly presents at a national level as an expert in her field.

“This award is a recognition of all that she does and she should be so proud of herself”.
