Stafford Hospital nurse struck off over patient death

A former nurse has been struck off over the treatment of a diabetic patient.

Gillian Astbury, who was 66, died at Stafford Hospital in April 2007 after not being given insulin for 48 hours.

Former nurse, Ann King has been struck off after a disciplinary panel.

Meanwhile colleague Jeanette Coulson has been cautioned and banned for three years.

Both were found guilty of misconduct by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) at a hearing in July.

The panel heard the pair had failed to carry out blood-sugar level tests on Mrs Astbury.

Both women expressed regret for their actions and said they had learned lessons but the panel said the nurses' ability to practise had been impaired.
