Shock resignation from cabinet of experienced city councillor

Councillor Randy Conteh has resigned from the cabinet at Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Councillor Conteh said “I have now been a city councillor for 14 years and over this period I have worked hard to support my constituents and the residents of Stoke-on-Trent.

“I have decided to step down as cabinet member for communities and safer cities at Stoke-on-Trent City Council with immediate effect. This includes all associated committees and internal and external boards and all other council committees and panels. I will still remain a ward councillor for the ward of Penkhull & Stoke and continue to attend Full Council.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the years.”

Councillor Abi Brown, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “I have worked alongside Cllr Conteh for many years and I want to thank him for his commitment and hard work during this time.”

Commenting on how this will affect the city council’s cabinet, Cllr Abi Brown, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “Following Cllr Conteh’s resignation from Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Cabinet, it has been agreed that portfolio responsibilities will be divided amongst current cabinet members. Subject to full council approval at a meeting in July, it is proposed that other representative functions previously carried out by Cllr Conteh will also be taken on by current members.”
