Stoke-on-Trent's busiest sexual health clinic is to extend its Saturday opening hours in a bid to allow more patients to be seen and reduce waiting times.
The clinic at Cobridge Community Health Centre provides contraception and sexual health (CASH) services, as well as GUM services (testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV).
From today it will be open for an extra two hours, from 9.30am to 2pm, after a recent consultation by the Sexual Health Team revealed service users wanted longer opening hours on a Saturday, particularly in the early afternoon.
However, opening hours on Fridays are being reduced by two hours, to enable staff training. On those days, the deadline for walk-in patients will be 1pm from now on.
Julia Barraclough, Operational Service Manager, said “It’s so important for people to be able to attend a sexual health clinic, and extending our opening hours on a Saturday should allow easier access to people who may not be able to attend during the week. Service users still need to realise that there may be a wait but that the opening hours are aiming to ensure we can see more patients and over time reduce the waiting times.”
