Motorist warned a road in Alsager could be closed for 12 weeks for repairs after a vehicle overturned on a level crossing are now being told it will reopen this week.
Emergency services were called to the incident at the junction of Sandbach Road South, Audley Road and Talke Road around 10:45pm on Monday night (29 June), including fire crews from Alsager and Crewe.
They used equipment to remove the vehicle from the train line, and one casualty was assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Following the incident, Cheshire East Council's Highways team, and Cheshire's British Transport Police, posted on Twitter that repairs were expected to take 12 weeks - and that Audley Road would be closed to vehicles for that duration.
But today (1 July), CEC Highways has tweeted a correction, saying that the road will only need to be shut for for a few days.
Following further communication with our colleagues at @NetworkRail, we have established that the repair works will now take place this week and the road is anticipated to reopen this Friday. We apologise for the below miscommunication. https://t.co/LLwSmymMZP— CEC Highways (@CECHighways) July 1, 2020
They have also apologised for the previous tweet with the incorrect information, and say they have confirmed the road can reopen this Friday.
