Officers reassure parents following 'suspicious incident'

Police say they are eager to reassure residents, after investigating a 'suspicious incident' in Crewe.

Officers say some time between 7am and 8am yesterday morning (23 January) a girl was walking near Oakland Avenue in Hasslington when a white van parked up.

When the male driver went to open the door to the van, the girl ran away.

Police say there is no evidence to suggest the man approached the girl.

Police Constable Kerrie Cummings, of Crewe LPU, said: “Although enquiries are ongoing into this incident we are eager to reassure the public as we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“We are also urging people to be wary of what they are sharing online as information can often be misconstrued and can hinder any ongoing enquiries.

“We are stepping up patrols in the area and would urge any who sees suspicious activity to contact officers.”

Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time should call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 618919.
