New doctors for UHNS

Eight new doctors are being recruited by the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

It is to help cope with the growing demand in Accident and Emergency.

The centre now treats 116,000 patients a year.

Dr Magnus Harrison, clinical director, said: "We want to ensure we are as ready as possible to face the challenges of winter and of meeting the demand for our services from across Staffordshire. I think this investment in Emergency Centre medical staff is a very positive and pro-active step and one that our patients will welcome. Last year there was an increase of nearly 10,000 patients, a rise of 10%."
