Police say anyone who finds a missing Stone man should seek medical attention for him immediately.
27-year-old Joshua Smith was last seen at his home at around 7am yesterday morning.
Police say it is possible he will be suffering an adverse reaction to his current medication, and may be in need of urgent assistance.
They say they should get professional medical help as soon as possible, then call them.
Joshua is described as white, of thin build, 5ft 10ins and has blue eyes. He has light hair which is longer on top, a bushy beard and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a black three-quarter length coat, black work boots and a mustard backpack.
Officers are growing increasingly concerned for Joshua's welfare and numerous inquiries are being carried out to locate him, including searches of surrounding woodland and fields.
Police are appealing for dog walkers in the Stone area to be vigilant and report any possible sightings immediately.
Joshua is originally from the Meir Heath area and also has links to Westport Lake, Hartshill Park and Middleport areas.
