A 30-year-old man has been left with serious injuries after an incident in Hanley.
Police say the man left Reflex Bar at 3:20am on Saturday, and was followed by a group of five men. He was then repeatedly kicked and punched to the ground in Stafford Street, close to the junction with Trinity Street.
The victim remains in hospital with head and facial injuries, where his condition is described as stable.
Detective Constable Liam Rider said: "This was a very serious, unprovoked assault on a man who was doing nothing more than enjoying a night out with his friends in the city centre.
"We would urge anyone who saw what happened, or who might have any information about what happened, to contact us.
"We are particularly keen to speak to a man who asked a female passer-by for her mobile phone so that he could phone for an ambulance for the victim.
"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote incident 98 of 11/11/2017 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
