Man has died of a heart attack on the A500 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police received a call about a suspected traffic collision at 12.25am - on the northbound side of the dual carriageway, between Sideway and the City Road slip-road.
Police and paramedics attempted to save the life of the man, believed to be around 80-years-old, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the northbound carriageway of the A500 near the slip-road to Stoke and Fenton.
“An elderly man was found unconscious in the car, having appeared to have had a heart attack at the wheel.
“Officers forced entry into the vehicle and attempted CPR on the man and also utilised defibrillators. Unfortunately, the man was confirmed dead at the scene.
“One lane of the A500 was closed while the incident was dealt with, but it has since re-opened."
