Man arrested after Hanford collision

A man has been arrested after a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Hanford.

At about 7.20am this morning a white Toyota vehicle collided with the 70 year old man from Stoke on the A34 Stone Road, approximately 50m from the roundabout at Hanford.

He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he remains in a serious, but stable condition with a head injury, a fractured hand and a suspected hip injury.

Following the collision the vehicle and its occupants left the scene.

The vehicle was located in Brendale Close, Hanford, and will now be subject to a detailed forensic examination.

Police closed the A34 Stone Road to London Road whilst an examination of the scene was carried out, and it was reopened just after 11am.

A 28-year-old man from Longton has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Officers believe a second individual was in the car at the time of the collision and are actively looking for this person, who is encouraged to come forward.

Police would like to thank motorists caught up in this morning’s disruption for their patience and understanding whilst the road was closed.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Andy Hogan at the force’s Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting incident number 105 of September 13.
