Two people have been arrested by officers investigating the death of a two-year-old girl in Fenton.
Police remain at the property on Packett Street after they were called to the location at 10am this morning, following the discovery of the child’s body at the address.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Wednesday morning to establish cause of death. Formal identification has yet to take place.
A 19-year-old woman and a 22-year old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Officers are continuing to carry out house-to-house inquiries in the area, and scenes of crime officers are examining the property, and an alleyway behind.
DI Dan Ison, senior investigating officer, said: "Our thoughts are with the little girl’s family at this time. This is a very distressing incident and we are doing all we can to support those affected.
"A detailed investigation is underway to understand the circumstances of what has happened and police activity will continue in the area.
"To provide support and reassurance high visibility patrols by Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have been stepped up. Please talk to these officers if you have any concerns."
