Government confirms MoD Stafford expansion in 2015

Stafford's MP says he has obtained confirmation from Armed Forces minister Andrew Robathan that troops from two Signals regiments currently based in Germany will be moving to MoD Stafford in late 2015.

There had been concerns that the proposals would not go ahead before of Defence cuts.

It has been confirmed redevelopment contracts for the site should be awarded next summer.

Jeremy Lefroy said: "I am delighted that everything is on track and the Minister has confirmed the move will go ahead in 2015. This will be a great boost for Stafford. I know how excited the town is about the move and this crystal clear commitment from the Government puts an end to any nervousness about the move given the huge hole in the Defence budget left by the previous Government. I have been pursuing this matter since I was elected and I am pleased that the Government have kept their word.

"This will be a great boost to the town and we need to make sure we are ready. I know that our Councils, schools and many other organisations are planning for the move and I will provide any help that I can to them.”
