Final chance for Coronavirus bookings at Staffordshire virus hotspot

It is the final day a mobile Covid-19 testing unit will be in Stone.

18 young adults have so far tested positive for the virus following an outbreak linked to the Crown and Anchor pub on the weekend of July 17, 18 and 19.

Tests are by appointment only and can be booked online at www.nhs.co.uk/coronavirus The permanent testing sites at the Bet365 Stadium and at Beaconside in Stafford will remain available to book either online or by phoning 119 if people have symptoms.

Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director of Health and Care said: “We have had a huge response to our appeal for people to come forward and get tested if they were at the pub that weekend or have been in close contact with anyone who was.

“While young people are likely to suffer very mild symptoms the risk to grandparents or other vulnerable members of their friends, family and local community can be potentially very serious.

“So even if you don’t have symptoms please pop along and get tested as this is the best way to protect your community.”

The Stone Mobile Testing Unit will be open form 10.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday – and the quickest way is to book online. People will need to choose the ‘I am in a lockdown area with a coronavirus outbreak’ option, even though there is no lockdown in Stone, in order to complete the booking.

The county council has been working with the NHS Partners and Stafford Borough Council to run the unit and more than 500 people have already been tested.

Further information about the outbreak and how people can reduce the risk of spreading the virus is available at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/coronavirus
