Family of Crewe crane collapse victim pay tribute

The family of one of two men killed when a crane collapsed on a Crewe building site say they will 'miss him terribly'.

36-year-old David Newall from the Bradford area died following the incident at a new housing development on Dunwoody Way on Wednesday 21 June.

David’s family said: “David was an amazing daddy, son, brother, uncle and friend. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him because he would simply do anything for anyone and go above and beyond if he could help.

"He was a devoted daddy to his 3 children who will miss him terribly.

"As a family we would like to offer our thanks to all the emergency services involved on the night of this terrible tragedy and the continued support we have received in the days following.”

18-year-old Rhys Barker from Castleford also died at the scene.

A third man, who was also working on the crane, was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital with serious injuries.

A police investigation into the circumstances is continuing, in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.
