Conference aimed at giving people an understanding of other people's mental health struggles

A mental health conference is taking place in Crewe on Thursday to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

The conference is aimed to give people an understanding of people's mental health struggles and to look at the priorities locally that need to be addressed.

The event at the Cheshire College South and West Crewe campus, has been organised by Kate Blakemore, founder and CEO of local charity Motherwell Cheshire.

The line up on the day include:

  • Opening speech by Kate Blakemore
  • A panel of people with lived experiences of mental health, they will be sharing their everyday struggles, including self harm, Bi polar and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • A local mum explains how her 16 year old son took his own life and speaks about the signs that were missed to help support his mental health.
  • Active Cheshire talk about the benefits that staying active has on our mental health.
  • Tracey Cole director of commissioning will be talking on the Clinical Commissioning Group local priorities for Mental Health.
  • Soroptimists Nantwich will be talking about their findings having mental health as a focus for the past year.

Other speakers and stalls will be available on the day, with a chance for discussion and networking.

Kate commented: "I have been a counsellor for almost 10 years, and I still find that mental health is not fully understood. This conference is aimed at providing a clear understanding of what struggles individuals have to live with on a daily basis.

"Mental health is on the rise in teenagers, males and mums, yet the services locally are stretched . The conference is a chance to bring individuals and local services together to plan a positive way forward.”
