Cash stolen during building society robbery

An investigation is underway following a robbery in Leek.

Officers say a man entered the St Edward Street branch of the Leek United Building Society around 1 o'clock this afternoon (2 January), and aggressively demanded cash.

A quantity of money was stolen.

He is described as white, 6ft tall with a slim build.

Police say he was wearing a black baseball cap with a white motif, a black top with a small white motif on the left chest, a black waterproof coat with a hood, black trousers with a small motif on the left top pocket, black trainers, a black scarf covering his face and black skiing gloves.

Writing on Twitter, Chief Inspector Mark Thorley, the Staffordshire Moorlands Neighbourhood Policing team commander, said: "An unusual crime for the area, if you saw anything suspicious please make contact.

"Local officers will remain in the area to provide reassurance and support the investigation."
