Calls about child abuse to helpline increase across Staffordshire and Cheshire

The NSPCC Helpline's referring more cases to agencies such as councils and police in Staffordshire and Cheshire, amid rising reports of neglect and abuse.

Figures from the advice line showed in Staffordshire 458 contacts were passed on in the last year - compared with 300 in the same period three years ago.
In Cheshire, there's been a rise of around a hundred - with 354 cases passed on over the last 12 months.
The charity said the figures reflected an increasing refusal for the public to turn a blind eye when it came to the welfare of children, and reflected a growing demand for advice and action to prevent child abuse.
Across the UK, 33,333 contacts were passed on in 2015/16 – nearly 100 a day - compared with 23,733 in 2012/13, a 40 per cent rise.
