It is believed a cutting tool was used by offenders to get into a Stoke-on-Trent post office.
Police say they cut through the metal shutters at Northwood Post Office on Keelings Road, Hanley, at around 2.30am this morning (11 January).
They then smashed through the glass.
The ATM was damaged from inside the post office, and an amount of cash was stolen from the machine.
An investigation is now underway and enquiries are on-going.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Anyone with any information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting incident 49 of 11 January. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
