Broken down lorry-mounted crane causing major delays on the M6 in Staffordshire

There are major delays on the M6 in Staffordshire due to over running roadworks.

The main carriageway is closed, severe delays and queueing traffic for ten miles northbound at junction 14 the A34 (Stafford North).

Congestion is back to junction junction 12 for (Gailey), from where it is currently taking around two hours to reach junction 14 in the roadworks area.

There is also congestion building into Stafford as traffic tries to divert by leaving at junction 13.

Overnight works due to finish at 06:00 have overrun.

Highways have confirmed one of their lorry-mounted cranes has broken down and cannot be moved until it is repaired.

Southbound is not affected.
