Specialist teams have been clearing up following a lorry fire on the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent.
Fire crews from Newcastle and Hanley, along with police, were called out to the incident on the northbound carriageway between Stoke Road and the Basford roundabout at Etruria around 4:30am this morning (20 November).
There were reports from locals in the area of a series of loud bangs.
The northbound carriageway was fully closed for around 8 hours, causing widespread delays across the city and in parts of Newcastle.
But one lane was reopened around 1:30pm this afternoon.
The exit slip road at Shelton New Road remains closed.
Highways England say the carriageway will need to be resurfaced, and so the road will have to be fully closed overnight for repair work to take place.
This is likely to be between 9pm tonight, and 6am on Thursday morning.
