Wins for Vale and Stoke's youngsters in Checkatrade trophy

Port Vale started their Checkatrade Trophy campaign with a 1-0 win over Burton Albion.

Ricky Miller came off the substitute's bench to net the winner midway through the second half.

The striker made an immediate with the only goal of the game three minutes after coming on for David Worrall.

It was Miller's first goal since the opening day of the season.

Meanwhile Stoke City's under 23's chalked up their first win with a 2-1 success at Morecambe.

Goals from Ollie Shenton and Tyrese Campbell sealed victory for the Potters.

Stoke picked up a point from their opening game at Sunderland despite losing on penalties.

It means Kevin Russell's side need just a point from their final group game at Carlisle to book a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
