Vale held at home by Salford

Port Vale missed out on the chance to close the gap on the play-off places after being held to a 1-1 draw by Salford.

Manager John Askey made an enforced change going into the game.

Mitch Clarke, who rejoined the club on loan from Leicester, after a successful loan spell last season, came in for Cristian Montano who missed out due to a virus.

The Vale had the better of the first half without creating too many goal scoring opportunities.

The hosts stepped it up after the break and eventually took the lead on 55 minutes.

A powerful run into the area by full back Clark saw his cross turned into his own net by defender Cameron Burgess despite the best efforts of keeper Kyle Letheren to keep it out.

The visitors fought back strongly and it was no surprise when substitute Tom Elliott headed home an equaliser at the far post on 75 minutes.

The result leaves the Vale in 10th place, just three points off the play-off places.

The Valiants are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to fifth place Northampton.
