Port Vale secured a much needed point on the road after a 0-0 draw at FA Cup giant-killers Newport County.
Manager Neil Aspin, whose own future remains unclear, made one change with Mark Harris making his debut in place of the suspended Ricky Miller.
The Vale had James Gibbons sent off five minutes from time but they managed to hold on for a share of the spoils.
Speaking to the clubs official website after the game, Aspin said: "There's a lot of positives and I think the players deserve credit.
"I think there's been too much talk about my own future on Saturday and nobody's sorting of concentrating on the game, but the fact although the players lost they played well and were very unfortunate and they battled hard with ten men and tonight they have done exactly the same."
The result lifted the Valiants up to 18th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.
The Vale are back in action on Saturday when they entertain Tranmere Rovers.
