Defender suffers serious knee injury on miserable night for Vale

Defender Kjell Knops was stretchered off with a knee injury

It was a night to forget for Port Vale who were beaten 3-0 at Rochdale.

The Valiants had Danny Pugh sent off after 21 minutes for a professional foul as he brought down Matthew Lund as he raced clear on goal.

Lund then put the home side ahead on 34 minutes.

It then went from bad to worse for the Vale as defender Kjell Knops was stretchered off with a knee injury.

They also conceded two further goals before the break.

Donal McDermott added a second before Ian Henderson struck with a penalty after Ryan Taylor was penalised for a foul on Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

The defeat saw the Vale drop to 20th in the table on goal difference but they remain two points above the relegation zone with a game in hand on the teams around them.

Michael Brown's side are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to relegation rivals Chesterfield.
