Perry Spiller:
My mother tells me I once bought sweeties in pre-decimal currency - that\'s how long I\'ve been on this planet. To be fair I cannot actually remember handling shillings and sixpences; but then again I struggle to remember last week.
If I was growing up today doctors would say I was hyperactive and they would have me rattling with Ritalin. But I was lucky enough to enjoy childhood in an age before the words \"health\" & \"safety\" were routinely and predictably clumped together. In retrospect I probably could have done with a small amount of H&S because as a child I genuinely thought I was invincible; so much so they knew me by name at A&E.
I grew up in Stratford on Avon, the son of a vicar but unlike Billy-Ray in the Dusty Springfield song I was no seducer of young women. When I saw a girl I liked I would bottle up just enough courage to approach her and say, \"You smell\" and then pull her hair and run away. Ironically it is only now I am married with children of my own that I feel completely comfortable in the company of attractive women - I hardly ever pull their hair nowadays.
I always thought I would follow my father into the church until I discovered you had to actually believe in God for that particular job. I mean honestly, red tape! So I became a lab rat instead and eventually worked my way up to lab assistant at a horticultural research establishment. I was still expendable but at least I got to play with scalpels and liquid nitrogen. I loved it there they were a great bunch to work with - scientists can be actually quite funny you know, and I don\'t just mean funny-peculiar. But I knew it wasn\'t the life for me; I was a performer, an artiste, a creative force who could not be shackled for long behind a flow bench with a pipette and a top pan balance for company.
At first radio was tough - a presenter\'s life is not a stable one which is ironic considering we are called disc jockeys - (Stable ... Jockey? Never mind.) But I was a single bloke with a love for music and a lot to say so I got stuck in and put up with the highs and lows of life behind the mic.
Although they haven\'t quite finished me off yet, I am survived by my beautiful wife Rebekah and two gorgeous children Caitlin (3) and Rex (2ish I think). In fact I am a little suspicious - they are both well beyond half-way between the gorgeousness of me and my wife. Have they inherited none of my hideous genes?
When childcare is not my main pre-occupation I like to read boring books about science and politics and I tinker in the garage trying to invent things. I have one patent to my name for a sweet that I was later informed is too expensive to make. Dragons\' Den - here I don\'t come!
And that\'s me! Pretty boring I\'m afraid. Sorry there will be no refund for the last five minutes of your life. All I can say is learn to speed-read.
Louise Stones:
I grew up (ha! should that be the right term??!!!) just up the road in Haslington, with my Mum, Dad and sisters. My Mum and Dad didn\'t get much peace as I was born a chatterbox and they still get earache now I\'m the grand old age of 36! I love going home, seeing my family and Jenson - he\'s our chocolate brown doberman. He\'s a loonatic dog!!!!! He doesn\'t seem to realise that at 6 stone he can\'t sit on your knee and watch Eastenders :-)
When I can be bothered to get out of my dressing gown you\'ll find me at The Theatre or a gig....I love all sorts of music from The Rolling Stones to The Kings of Leon!!
My first blast at my own radio show, was after my Gran bought me one of those little black tape recorders....I whiled away hours taping The Top 40, and chatting to loads of imaginary guests!!!! Seriously!! I interviewed Kenny Everatt, Rod Stewart and even a politcal show with Michael Foot!! I realised at just 7, I couldn\'t quite pull off an impersation of Rod Stewart...so, I just informed my listeners that he was stuck on a bus in Nantwich and couldn\'t make it in to the \'studio\'!!
I wasn\'t quite sure what I wanted to do when I left school. I dabbled in Business Studies and soon realised that I was wasting my time!! I decided that if I was going on to study, it should be something that I loved. I spent a fantastic 3 years studing Creative Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University. I loved my time there, enjoying acting, contemporary art and writing. This is where it all changed...shortly after, I was in complete blind panic, wondering where life would take me next. I was offered a place at Oxford School of Drama and work as a wardrobe mistress at Crewe Lyceum Theatre. Here\'s me thinking that that was a big enough decision to make!!?? Then out of the blue Signal 1 advertised a chance to be a presenter on the Breakfast Show!!! Well...I thought I \'ll give that a go!!!
Next thing you know there was no decision to make!!! I started in November 2000...and have been getting up at half 4 every morning since!! Enjoying the highest ratings that the breakfast show has ever had here at Signal 1l!! It\'s amazes me sometimes, even now, that I get paid to chat!! How lovely??
I never take it for granted either, and enjoy every minute from....interviewing my hero\'s such as Paul Weller and Jamiroquai.. (and...pretending not to be phased when you meet them!!:) to getting out and about meeting you!! our listeners. You make the show, and constantly call and email with your news and make me laugh with your goings on!!! I love it!! Through Signal I\'ve enjoyed doing a couple of panto\'s and hosting all kinds of events, from charity auctions to huge concerts at Brittania Stadium. I have to laugh sometimes - you\'ve got Girls Aloud waiting to go on stage, and I\'m on the phone talking to my mum talking about quiche!!! ahhh...the showbiz life ey??!! I hope to enjoy a fair few more years with Signal.
We\'re in an ace area, slap bang in the middle of Birmingham and Manchester, near to my family, and love has......... just brought me an avid Stoke fan too, so\'s theres no escape for me!! Join us in the week, if you\'re up and about. You\'ll find me burning Perry\'s ear off each week day morning from 6am, failing that I live in TopShop!! so, do say hello if you see me!!
