22 ways to get some extra money

It's that time of year when we're fed up with the cold, desperate for a holiday, but struggling with big fuel bills and left over debt from Christmas or a big tax bill in January.

We need a quick reminder of where we can save and maybe even bring in some extra cash. I've found a good article with some of the obvious solutions but also some you might not have thought of, so have a peep!

Family photo.

Family photo.

There's only one picture of me, my sister, Mum & Dad.   Dad was pulling a face, I was looking off to the side and we are all standing really awkwardly.   Dad has now passed away and we only have that one imperfect amateur group-shot to remind us.

So I have been keen to get a professional picture of my young family before everyone grows up, starts looking to the side and I pull a silly face and die.

Easier said than done!  Went to Paulo's studio in Newcastle the other day where we were treated very professionally - but my little monsters would just not sit still and smile at the camera.   Even for the action shots they would not do their cutest stuff in the right part of the studio.   Then for those occasional moments where both offsprogs were actually looking at the camera either I or the missus was scowling at them.

But the photographer was very patient and resourceful and eventually with the help of a stuffed Bob the Builder managed to hold mine and my wife's attention long enough to get a decent shot.

If I thought the photo shoot was arduous, I was ill-prepared for the selection process.   Aaaargh!   I was like "Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep and yep."   My wife was all "don't like my neck on that, how fat are my arms on this?!, you can see my belly folds, eargh! Look at my hands...etc"

Eventually, four hours later, we plumped on this photo.   BTW - Rex is smiling here - not crying.

SHOPPING IN PJS

The other morning on the Breakfast Show we heard about a Tesco store which is banning those customers who turn up in their PJs to do shopping.. apparently some people find it offensive.

Louise and I had never been shopping in our PJs, to the outrage to many listeners. You told us it made your stressful shopping trips that little bit more relaxing...

So we decided to give it a go!

From Dave in Weston

A farmer and his hired help were carrying grain to the barn. The farmer carried one sack of grain and the hired help carried two sacks. Who carried the heavier load and why?

The farmer because the hired help just carried two empty sacks, I didn't say he had any grain in his! Ah, good one you're thinking (hopefully). Mail me your ponders from my profile page.

I am looking after things for Simon Morykin who is having a well earned holiday (its hard working hanging out with all the celebs). He is actually having a "staycation" where you have a holiday but stay at home! I wonder if he has got a sandpit in his back garden?

SAVE ££££££S ON INSURANCE

Monday, 25 January 2010 12:08:12
SAVE ££££££S ON INSURANCE

I've just discovered this week after an error on my part that my house wasn't insured for 3 and a half years buildings or contents!!! I dread to think what would have happened had anything happened. I haven't told my other half as it's just one of thsoe things you keep to yourself isn't it? When you've messed up big time but nothing's happened as a result. A close shave they don't need to know about!

Anyhow - I had to get some quotes for insurance and am glad they now have price comparison sites. Ringing up 3 plus companies and giving them all the same boring details over and over again is such a drag.

I saw an advert that said "We're not on price comparison web sites" and I'm like "Well, you won't be getting my business then!"

They might be cheaper but I'll never know - because if I do ring them - then I'll still have to ring at least another 2 to see if I'm getting a good deal. So they can STICK IT!!

Anyhow if you're looking at renewing your insurance soon, moneysavingexpert.com has some great tips on how you can save £100s!

The link you need is....

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance

I'll go and put my feet up now - safe in the knowledge that if my ceiling collapses or I drop a television down the stairs like so many people seem to accidentally do, I am now actually insured - and just hope my partner doesn't read this!

Another Cane in the wall

Thursday, 21 January 2010 09:28:49
Another Cane in the wall

Call me a reactionary, Daily Mail reading dinosaur if you like (actually I read New Scientist, Private Eye and Chat), but I am in favour of corporal punishment in schools.   I think each headmaster in the land should have a whippy little curved piece of bamboo on display in a glass cabinet in his room.   It should stand there at the epicentre of every school as a visual reminder for any young boundary-pusher who may be getting ideas about nudging those boundaries over the edge, that the Head has the ultimate deterrent at his disposal.   It would be like a bamboo version of trident - but a lot cheaper.

That's what it was like in my day.   We all knew about "Spud's" cane (that was just our name for the Head - I'm sure his Mum called him Terrence or Clive or something like that.)   The bad boys had seen the school cane displayed behind glass on many occasions.   As for the good boys and all the girls, none of whom had even stepped foot in his office; they talked in hushed and fearful tones about this weapon of almost mythical repute.   BTW - back in the late seventies ALL the girls were good.   Little girls in them days really were made of sugar and spice.   Incidentally, I always fancied having a little dog's tail.   Alas, I never sprouted even so much as a Jack Russell stub to wag when I was happy.

But this nuclear option had never been used in anger in living memory (by "living memory" I am of course talking four years as it was a junior school).   That was until I came along.

Oh yes; for this particular boundary pusher, Spud was willing to make an exception and open the cabinet, take down the dreaded cane and strike my palm three times.   And it bl**dy hurt!

So what was the heinous crime which brought down such punishment on this petrified twelve year old, shaking in his school shorts?   Grand theft?   Fighting with knives?   Arson?   Nope - none of the above.

It all started over an argument with my mate Chris Thompson about the lyrics to "Another Brick in The Wall" by Pink Floyd.   Ironically the line under debate was, "We don't need no education".   The song was at number one in the charts and I had been merrily singing this refrain around the house.   On hearing my caterwauling my lovely Mum - being an English teacher (at a different school) and a pedantic hair-splitter - pointed out that I was singing a double negative.

She carefully explained that "we don't need no...", when you work it through logically, actually means, "we do need some education."

I now realise that this ironic contradiction was probably intentional as the Pink Floyd boys, being privately educated brain-boxes, were just the type to revel in multi-layered lyrics.   That's why I have a soft spot for country.   There's no reading anything into "and if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart, he might blow up and kill this man".   Ok, so Billy Ray Cirus could be accused of exaggerating slightly, but you know where you are with lyrics like these.

Anyway, once Mum had got through my twelve year old, thick skull and planted the idea of the double negative in my under-used brain I decided the best place to discuss this was in the playground with my best mate Chris.

Chris was a down-to-earth sort of fella and as a child, I was a hopeless communicator of concepts such as double negativity.   So inevitably he didn't believe me and before long things became quite heated.

Always the peace-maker, and because he could see I was about to land one on him, Chris said "let's ask Mrs Southern".

Now there are two things you should know about Mrs Southern (who's probably serving up spotted dick to Beelzebub by now); she was an evil dinner lady who had her favourites.   They were the girls and the good boys - not me then.   The other thing you should know about this hard-staring midget of a battle-axe is that at this exact instant she was stood right behind me.   In retrospect, I could have done with that info too.

Looking back, I was an arrogant young idiot and I am not proud of what I said next.   I am even less proud that she heard me say it:

"Don't ask her she's thick!"

Long story short ...well, it's pretty long already, but I was soon in Spud's office having to explain myself to Michael.   That was his name for it: "Michael Cane" you see - geddit?

The punishment was swift and, like I say, it bl**dy hurt!   Apparently my screams for mercy as Spud dragged me down to his office could be heard right across the school.   My blood-curdling wails scattered a murder of crows from their roosts in the gnarled old oaks that lined the grounds ... hang on; this is turning into a Hammer Horror.

But the blood-curdling/girlie screaming was real.   Even the lads playing footy at the far end of the playing fields could hear me - and remember, this was before the government sold off all the playing fields so I was clearly audible over a large area.

Afterwards, I was hailed a hero by the other kids (despite the girlie screaming) coz I was the ultimate boundary pusher that year.   Surely then, the cane as a deterrent didn't work if all it resulted in was the upping of my kudos?   Well I disagree.   Nobody else ever called Mrs Southern "stupid" and, probably because of my girlie screaming, no one in my school pushed the boundaries so far as to make Spud take down Michael ever again (or at least for the next four years).

Another lasting effect of having had the cane is that I still can't listen to "Another Brick in the Wall" without checking who's behind me.

Should XXXL People Be Charged More to Fly?

Thursday, 21 January 2010 10:17:24
Should XXXL People Be Charged More to Fly?

Air France has revealed it may prevent obese economy passengers from boarding its planes for "safety reasons".

It said that, under new rules, if a flight was full an overweight person who did not fit into a single seat might have to take another plane.

It made the admission when it said obese people buying two seats for more comfort would be fully reimbursed for the second if the plane was not full.

This new rule comes into effect from 1 February.

Is this a bit unfair on those of us who have piled on the pounds a bit or is it justified if you've ever sat next to someone in economy who needs a bit more room than the average person (well English person not average American obviously).

The above picture taken by a stewardess on her mobile should answer the question!!!

You wouldn't want to be next to him really would you, honestly - even if you were as large as him.

This is a sensitive issue - I'm no Kate Moss but equally I'm no whale and I do think airlines charging more for the XXXL passengers may be the push some need to lose weight.

I tipped the scales at an embarrassing weight a few years ago and it was seeing myself in one of those changing room mirrors in M&S that made me think - enough's enough and I initially joined a gym (waste of time for me - too many thin and attractive people there) so I started walking places I used to drive. Like half a mile to the paper shop and walking to get groceries from my local shops. I wore an iPod to listen to my fave tunes while I did it and in no time without realising I was power-walking to the beat and lost 2 stone in 6 months.

So I have been there - and know it can be done. Most of the time we are too lazy and expect to be driven everywhere. I know there are a FEW cases where someone is ill and gets large because they cannot walk or exercise but for the rest of us - come on! We know we can do it but deep down we just can't be bothered!

That said - I can stand to lose another couple of stone so I will get the ipod out again and let you know where I'm up to over the next few blogs.

Now I've committed myself I'm going to have to - mind you my flights will be cheaper this summer!

Katie Price leaving Twitter?

Katie Price leaving Twitter?

The world is all a twitter if you believe all the hype in the press. I heard Gordon Ramsey being interviewed this week and he said he's going into the Twittersphere this February. So stand-by to receive a tirade of 'F' words direct to your mobile phone from now on (unless you already subscribe to Heidi Fleiss's).

I thought I might give a go but find it difficult to believe anyone would want to hear from in 140 words or less describing how I was in B&Q looking for grout this morning.

Celebrities on the other hand (I'm not one) must have so much to say.

Unfortunately so do the so-called 'fans' too/

Katie Price is considering quitting Twitter after receiving "relentless" abuse on the website, a report has claimed. According to The Mirror, the glamour girl is upset over comments which have been directed at her on the social networking service since she split from Peter Andre.

A source said: "Kate is a tough cookie and she's grown used to what she calls 'the haters' who are constantly taking pops at her. But the level of abuse on Twitter can be intolerable. She really is in two minds about staying on the site."

To say I was shocked is a statement. So I have sent her a note of support - as I don't feel she should be forced off this way of sending bored people boring bits of information about herself.

"Dear Katie - please stay on Twitter you orange-faced rancid old witch" - should do the trick hopefully!

Ricky Gervais on the other hand has quit Twitter. Apparently he deleted his page last week, insisting that Twitter should only be embraced by teenagers.

In a post on his official blog, Gervais wrote: "As you may know I've stopped with Twitter. I just don't get it I'm afraid. I'm sure it's fun as a networking device for teenagers but there's something a bit undignified about adults using it.

"Particularly celebrities who seem to be showing off by talking to each other in public. If I want to tell a friend, famous or otherwise what I had to eat this morning, I'll text them."

I, on the other hand won't......I'll tell you on this blog - Alpen and a black coffee if you must know.

Come back next week to find out what I'm having for dinner on February 1st!

Monday's Ponder...

You have an ice cube in a glass of water...once it's melted, will the water level in the glass be higher, lower or exactly the same?

The same! Because the ice cube displaces its weight and so it will still take up the same amount of space in the glass, although I'm not convinced because sometimes they bob up out of the water and so are not taking up their full space when they're an ice cube. I'll have to experiment with this one.

Comp Winner, Puppy Poo and Jedward Poo

Comp Winner, Puppy Poo and Jedward Poo

Congratulations to Andrew Simpson of Chesterton who was selected at random from all the entries to win the fantastic EASY PIANO for the Nintendo DS.

It's on its way to you Andrew. Have a Merry Christmas.

I'll have more goodies to give away on the blog soon so keep checking back regularly - why not add the page to your favourites?

Christmas is coming and this year with new puppy Daisy in the house - we've decided to have a mini-tree on the sideboard well out of her reach to avoid the spectacle of it being knocked over every day or just chewed to bits!

We fed her chicken as a treat recently and to say it back-fired spectacularly is an understatement as she had extreme diarrhoea in the middle of the night and cleaning up that sort of mess at 5am with a hangover is not my idea of a laugh.

It was all over the floor and quilt and even over my Nike ID trainers which I would have thrown out had they not cost that much. So I was in the marigolds cleaning them the next morning! What a **** weekend that was - literally!

Anyway talking of **** - Jedward are in the news this week saying they are eager to release an original song as their first single. The 18-year-old twin brothers, who are expected to sign a record deal with Sony in the New Year, insisted that they want to avoid being stereotyped by The X Factor. They added, "We need to do a proper song and it's about having a song that's different to everything else in the rest of the world."

"Everyone is writing about the same thing, like girls and love. We want something that is completely outside of the box, that no-one else is thinking of, because that is the type of songs that people want to listen to."

So with that in mind - I've started work on one for them...here's the first few lines:

You seen us in the papers,

We've been on all the mastheads,

But no matter what we sing,

We're still a pair of  -  is that all I've time for this week...oh, what a shame!

Just time to leave you with a joke then....

I've just been to Selfridges to get the other half a Christmas present...

The lying muppets don't even sell fridges!

Friday's Ponder

If I say everything I tell you is a lie, am I telling the truth or a lie?

I'm telling a lie because I'd have to contradict myself if I'm saying I tell lies but expect you to believe that is the truth. I could be telling a lie about telling a lie. Confusing isn't it?! Mail me from my profile page with your ponder/brain teasers.

Puppy's gone mad and I've got Lost

Friday, 04 December 2009 13:30:40
Puppy's gone mad and I've got Lost

I'll be off to Carpetright or some other carpet emporium this week after puppy Daisy did her first really destructive act - she chewed all the carpet up at the top of the stairs. Not somewhere we could get away with leaving it but right at the top of the stairs where all visitors see it. Thing is - if you get a puppy you've got to expect these things happening - all it means is my nephew and niece will be going without Christmas presents this year! I'll get their dad to let off a gun outside their house on Christmas Eve and tell him to tell them Santa's done himself in!

Thanks to Lovefilm.com I'm getting through Lost at the moment - up to Season Three now.

It's always great when you can do that with a TV series that's passed you by. You get to watch them all in one go - well in 25 goes with all of Lost. That fat guys still fat though - how is that happening? And what's with all the flashback? If they ditched those - they could get the series over with in half the time! News is that the Sixth and final series is airing in the States in February next year - and not long after here - so I'm hoping to catch up by then. The great thing is at the end of each series so far with the big cliff-hangers - I've only got to wait a day to find out what happens as opposed to 9 months if you watched it when it went out.

I do hope that they know where the series is going and don't have to suddenly think now "Oh **** how are we going to end this?" - like my bosses about my contract here at Signal One!!!

I've decided to leave you with my fave joke of the moment at the end of each blog as well....so here's this issues:

Barnsley lad goes into the vet's and sez to t'vet

BL: "I've come to see thee about t'cat"

Vet: "t'cat?"

BL: "Aye, t'cat"

VFet : "Is it a Tom?"

BL : "nay it's in t'car"

Update : I'm now on Twitter and will tweet when amusing things happen to me (or just let you know what I'm having for tea like the stars do!).

Look what they're growing in Asdas!

Tuesday, 01 December 2009 06:49:14
Look what they're growing in Asdas!

I was in the cafe at Asda in Tunstall on Monday when I noticed the plant next to me had very distinctive foliage.   Take a close look at the piccy here.   Now I'm no horticulturalist, but I've seen those leaves on certain Tee shirts and posters - usually under the words "legalise" and "it".

Don't panic - Asdas of Tunstall aren't about to be stormed by narcotics - it's plastic.

Odd choice though.

Come Dine With Me

This was sent to us from the makers of "Come Dine With Me"

We are currently looking for new contestants in the Stoke area to take part in a new, prime-time series of the hugely popular Channel 4 show, Come Dine with Me. In each episode, we visit a different town or city in the UK. We pick four enthusiastic amateur chefs who don’t know each-other and ask them to take it in turns to host a dinner party for the other three. At the end of the week the best host wins a £1,000 cash prize.

We will be filming an episode of the series in the Stoke area the week beginning the 25th of Jan and are therefore just in the stages of getting the message out to as many people in the area as possible. We are looking for people that are passionate about food, confident and interesting characters to take part in the show. It would be great if you could mention that we are looking for applicants in the next few weeks and if people are interested get in touch sooner rather than later.

Would it be possible to put the attached flyer on your noticeboard and forward this email to the workers– or wherever you feel appropriate?  If anyone would be interested in taking part in the show please ask them to contact us on 0871 200 3939 (Calls cost 10p from a BT landline)

Spooky...

We were only half watching X Factor at the weekend because we had my baby nephew round, so we were watching him on the baby monitor/camera.

Suddenly the volume lights went right up in to the red as though he was screaming but he was fast asleep, we couldn't hear a sound and there were no fireworks going off outside!

His dad ran upstairs and we stayed downstairs and watched the monitor and as soon as dad entered the room, the lights went off again. How creepy hey?! We brought the baby downstairs. Have you had anything similar happen?

Made it!

Made it!

Yay - 'feels good to be alive.   If you click on the link to the video (below) you will be able to watch our descent of Alton Towers; held by a crumbling chimney, suspended by a thin rope and slowed only by friction - doesn't bare thinking about.

Congratulations to Dave from Cafe Continental who called the show to volunteer to join me in the abseil despite his chronic fear of heights.   I found this challenging enough; I can't imagine what he had to conquer here.

Massive thank you to Mark and the guys at MSL who trained us and oversaw the safety of our abseil.   They were faultless.   Thanks to Alton Towers for letting us be the first people to ever dangle off their historic walls on ropes (the chimney was actually very sound and stable btw).

Mostly we wish every success to the good people who work tirelessly for seriously ill and life-limited children at The Donna Louise Trust.   Especially Sylvia and Melanie who 1st contacted me on hearing my childhood ambition had been to be a stunt man on the Breakfast Show (me and my big mouth!)

If whilst watching the video you imagine yourself edging out over the precipice 140ft up, as Dave and I did, and you find yourself thinking "that looks scary" then please visit my "just giving" page where you can still donate to The DLT online using a credit or debit card.

Just click on "Perilous Perry" on the Signal1 homepage.

Thanks everso!

Perry's abseil for The Donna Louise Trust

Thursday, 17 September 2009 05:13:33
Perry's abseil for The Donna Louise Trust

Sponsorship link Below.

Wednesday 23rd September Perry will be risking life and limb for desperately ill children from our area.   Local children’s charity, The Donna Louise Trust, were listening to Perry on the breakfast show moan that he missed out on his child-hood ambition to be a stuntman.   So they offered him a chance to make his dream a reality.

Together with the fun-loving folks at Alton Towers who have leant their historic towers for the purpose, The Donna Louise Trust have arranged professional training (Thanks to Mark at MSL Mountaineering) and the opportunity to abseil down the side of the towers.

Needless to say Perry is now regretting opening his big gob!   Perry, Signal1, Alton Towers and everyone at The Donna Louise Trust would love it if you to help by sponsoring Perry's descent.   It need only be a modest (or not so modest?!?) amount to help The Trust continue doing amazing things for local, extremely ill children and their families during this, their 10th anniversary.

Thank you for your interest and support - every penny donated will be extremely well-spent.

BTW - if you're down at Alton Towers on the day, cheer the poor fella on.

Thanks.

The End to a Fishy Tail :(

Oh the tears that we shed for the sad passing of ‘Benson’ the Carp.  Recently voted in as THE Anglers favourite fish of all time….how on earth do they decide on this one??? And more to the point as a reader of ‘The Anglers Times’ have they run out of questionnaires?? Nevertheless after much deliberation and tallying - the prestigious title went to Benson the Carp, unfortunately due to passing Benson wasn’t available to collect the trophy

‘Little kidders’ takes a break over Summer, and instead we ask how much time do you have for a toddler? Our gorgeous little girl Kaitlin gets up to all sorts of mischief calling different businesses………..but, how long do you think she manages to keep them holding on??? We’ll be playing just after 8 in the morning.  If you suss out the ‘Time for the Toddler’ you’ll bag yourself a fab day out at Blackbrook Zoo, and loads of CD’s!! Good Luck!!

The Morning After!!!!!!!!!!

We had an ace time last night at ‘Signal Style Awards’!! Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor picked up 'The Cultural Icon Award'…he said it wasn’t the trophy itself that was making him smile, but  - the fact that Robbie Williams hadn’t won it!! J He promptly went off to text him in LA, just to rub it in!!! News in from Chilli! they’ve got a bed that makes itself…how cool is that? Well, either cool or lazy we’re not quite sure! It was the story that caught our eye for ‘Your headline Hit’, and your song suggestions rolled in thick and fast.  Michael in Sandbach topped the lot with Automatic –The Pointer Sisters! mmm…we’re seeing potential problems with this bed…you know….. should it try to make itself whilst your in it!!

Talent shines through even when your skint!!

How mad is this?? The Diving Championships were taking place in Rome last week, and we found out this morning that the Worlds Number 8, can barely afford to go to the swimming baths.  He's been practising back at home in Romania diving head first onto a stack of mattresses!! Talk about natural talent??...we're not suggesting of course you throw yourself off the landing onto your old bed-frame:) We were after a song to match todays headline story - 'out of his depth'. We loved all of your suggestions, but could only play one and went with TLC and WaterFalls, from Fran in Crewe!!

The Top 10 doggie names were released today, and it seems that kids names are being used for our poochies, the hot favourites up and down country were Alfie & Millie, we didn't fair too badly round here!! and even found a horse called Eric.... maybe a Morecombe & Wise influence going on there, and thought it best too leave Pat's pets 'Reg & Ronnie' to the own devices!!

The Baboons have gone a step too far!

The Baboons have gone a step too far!

You know as you drive through the baboon enclosure at Knowsley Safari Park you risk losing your winscreen wipers and having fruit smeared across your bonnet but now they've come up with a new game.

Follow the link to The Sun's webpage where you can see why the baboons have now got ASBOs!

Whatfest 2009

Whatfest 2009

Never mind your V festivals, T in the Parks or your Glastonburys; Whatfest is where it's at!   I spoke to organiser Simon Bennett on the show today.   He told us this family-friendly music festival in Northwich in its second year will star such greats as The Blue Tones, China Crisis and Dodgy.   Not only the old favourites, but also some up and coming stars of the future will be spread across the both stages and across the whole weekend.

There's also a funfair, children's activities, an organic bar plus much more besides.

Situated on a farm just outside Davenham near Northwich, Whatfest is in its second year and already it has grown considerably.   Watch out Glastonbury!

Click on the link to check out the details, and whatever you are doing, have a great weekend.

Facing the truth

Facing the truth

I have often looked at The Late, Great Michael Jackson's much butchered face and wondered which medically qualified surgeon did that?   And how much money did it take them to desert their medical ethics so spectacularly?

Well we have an answer to the 1st question;   Michael's skin specialist was a Dr Arnold Klein of Beverley Hills - where else?!   And Dr Klein is now under investigation.

What I can't fathom out is how this professional could open a tabloid or look at a magazine almost any day of the week, gaze upon his own handy-work in the form of Michael's hacked-about features and think to himself "I am proud of my work".

I am no expert, but I would say what our much-loved, moon-walking genius of pop really needed was counselling, not carving.

All very sad.

£50 for your 20pence piece!

We've been getting so many calls on this, so let me clarify once and for all exactly what the deal is here with these £50 20p pieces.

There was a mistake on about 200,000 20p pieces which were issued by the Royal Mint last year.   It was when they changed the design on the back to the partial coat of arms (it's all part of the composite coat of arms design created when you place one of each of the seven main coins in our currency next to each other in the specific way).

Some numpty at the mint forgot to put the date on the other side on these 20p coins and so now collectors are paying serious money for any which turn up.   So keep your eyes peeled!

Re. the 2p piece;   this is said to be worth even more dosh.   Back in the early 80s the Mint changed the word "New" (as in "New Pence") to "Two".   This was because, in the same way that "New Labour" is sounding a bit jaded twelve years on, a decade after decimalisation the term "New Pence" lost all meaning.

Now whether it was the same numpty at the Mint who cocked-up on the 20pees or not, I don't know, but some eejit started stamping out a few 2p pieces with "New Pence" written on the reverse side instead of "Two Pence".   This happened for a very short while in 1983 and the few coins which entered circulation with this particular error are said to be worth hundreds.   Word to the wise:  Plenty of 2pees have "New Pence" stamped on them, but only the ones from 1983 are worth anything.    They are as rare as hens' teeth.

Happy Hunting!

What a weekend!

What a weekend!

Phewee, I'm resting my legs now after they've been in action all weekend...jumping around at Britannia Stadium as Stoke beat Wigan 2-0 and then on Sunday I went to Aerial Xtreme at Trentham.

It's an action-packed course up in the trees with ropes to climb across and wobbly bridges and then a surprise at the end that made me scream a little bit! Ha Ha. The picture shows me just before I fell for the umpteenth time, and thank goodness there are saftey ropes!

I've been to a few similar things before but this was a good challenge with tougher sections to cross so I give it a difficulty rating of 8 out of 10!

Name that fish!

Name that fish!

Here's one of my honeymoon pictures (underwater of course), where I saw turtles, a moray, baby white-tip reef shark, clown fish, but can you name the shy creature in this picture with me? It's a little bubbly and blurry but hopefully you can make him out!

I'll give you a clue...if he wasn't happy to see me, he'd be much bigger than that!

My Wedding

As you'll have heard, I got married and went on honeymoon last week and here's a picture of us cutting our fish-themed cake at the evening do...we met learning to scuba dive so thought it was appropriate. It's got us in scuba gear on the top although not sure you can pick that out.

Just sorting my honeymoon pics so might have a fish or two to add on shortly
