Police say a pedestrian has suffered serious injuries after being knocked down by a car in Middlewich.

Shortly after 9.45pm last night (16 May) emergency services were called to reports that a 51-year old woman had been involved in a collision with a vehicle on Cledford Road near to Kinderton Park.

Officers found that the vehicle involved had failed to stop, and had fled the scene.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her legs and was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital.

A 47-year-old woman from Middlewich has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision and failing to report a collision.

Detective Sergeant Richard Johnson said: “This victim in this incident has sustained life changing injuries and we are committed to doing all that we can to bring the person responsible to justice.

“Enquiries into the collision are currently on-going and I’m keen to hear from anyone with any information in relation to the incident.

“I’d specifically like to speak to anyone who believes that they may have seen the victim walking in the Cledford Lane area before the collision occurred.”
