Stafford man jailed after admitting sex offences

A Stafford man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for multiple sex offences.

32-year-old Matthew Anthony, from Lincoln Meadows, was arrested in March 2016 by officers from Staffordshire Police's Operation Safenet team, who specialise in investigating online child abuse.

During their investigation detectives found eight victims were subjected to abuse between March 2010 and March 2016.

Anthony, formerly of Ness Grove in Cheadle, pleaded guilty last month to three counts of making an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and 8 counts of causing a male 13 or over to engage in sexual activity.

DI Simon Caton, senior investigating officer, said: "This sentence is to be welcomed and I hope it brings some comfort to the victims of these terrible crimes who are to be commended for their bravery in speaking out.

"Such criminal activity is simply unacceptable. We will not tolerate those who abuse children and young people and will endeavour to take positive action against those individuals.

"Operation Safenet was set up to protect children from online abuse and exploitation and we will continue to root out people in the community who choose to harm them in this way.

"We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure any children who may have had contact with this man are supported and kept safe."

Anyone who suspects such a crime has occurred, or is a victim, is encouraged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 to report it. Help and support is available every step of the way.
