Renewed appeal for Stoke on Trent man missing in Wales

Thursday, August 9th 2012 18:15

Shayne Colaco failed to return from weekend walking trip

Police are renewing their appeal for help after a Stoke-on-Trent man failed to return home after going climbing in Snowdonia.

The 32 year old of Kiln View is believed to have set off on his own on a route up Tryfan after leaving his Fiat Seicento car at Ogwen Cottage campsite.

Staffordshire Police received a call just after 7pm on Monday 6th August reporting Shayne as missing.

Initial inquiries established he went walking alone in Snowdonia at the weekend but failed to return home.

Shayne’s car was traced to the campsite and a land and air search was undertaken on Tuesday, and into Wednesday, in the Tryfan area to locate him.

It appears he has been walking in the Western area of Ogwen Valley.

There are two areas in which the search is currently being focused: the first covers Pen Yr Ole Wen (mountains North of the A5), Yr Garn and Foel-Goch (South and West of Ogwen); and the second is a walk from Llyn Ogwen up Tryfan to Adam & Eve.

The return journey would be Cwm Bochlwyd, via Llyn Bochlwyd; along the A5 to Capel Curig.

Shayne is described as an experienced hill walker, and is thought to have been wearing clothes similar to those he is pictured in - a dark blue North Face walking jacket, grey and navy Bear Grylls walking trousers and walking boots.

Efforts to trace Shayne are ongoing and officers from both Staffordshire and North Wales Police forces will continue to pursue lines of inquiry.

The Senior Investigating Officer, DI Steve Morrey from Staffordshire Police said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have seen Shayne, or been in contact with him recently, to get in touch.

"We believe that he has been walking in a popular area and are hoping that someone has seen or spoken to him.

"We urge anyone that is walking in the location where we believe Shayne has gone missing to please look out for him.

"It may be that he has been injured and cannot raise the alarm.

"We will continue to liaise with our colleagues at North Wales Police and are supporting Shayne’s family and friends at this time.”

Anyone with information on Shayne’s whereabouts is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 680 of August 6.
