A man who had to be retrieved from a canal while trying to evade police has been charged with burglary.

Officers investigating an incident at a property in Kidsgrove on Saturday say the 29-year-old from Biddulph jumped into the Trent and Mersey Canal.

He then made his way into the Harecastle Tunnel, but was removed by crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
