Man, 77, dies following collision

A pedestrian has died following a collision in Holmes Chapel.

Police were called to London Road at about 6.30pm on Friday evening.

A 77-year-old man was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but died a short time later. 

Officers launched an investigation and enquiries have been ongoing in the local area. A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in custody at this time and is assisting officers with their enquiries. 

Police remain in the local area and anyone with any information about the incident is urged to speak to an officer or call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 735 of 17 March. 

Sergeant Neil Farnworth said: “We now know that the victim was involved in a collision in London Road around 6.30pm and the vehicle involved has failed to stop at the scene. Sadly, the elderly man has lost his life and we are now in the process of trying to piece together what has happened. 

“If you were in the London Road area around that time and have seen anything significant or have any information, which could assist with our enquiries, please get in touch. This is a busy road at a busy time of day and someone must have seen or heard something. 

“The man’s family is currently being supported by specially trained officers at this very difficult time.”
