Investigation underway into Crewe car arson

Four cars burnt out

Witnesses are being urged to come forward after four cars were set alight within a mile of each other in Crewe overnight.

The first two incidents occurred just before 5am in Greystone Park, Earle Street, Crewe and involved a yellow Ford Ka and a black Vauhall Astra which were 50 to 60 yards apart.

The third fire involved a red Vauxhall Vectra in Harrison Drive, which was out on firefighters arrival after police extinguished the flames using an extinguisher.

The final fire affected the front of a garage after a red Volkswagen Polo, which had been parked on a driveway, was set alight.

Cheshire Fire Investigation officer Ian Swan said: "These are very serious incidents which could have endangered the lives of residents and the firefighters who attended them.

Crewe NPU Inspector Lindsay Chamberlain said "This destructive, mindless vandalism will not be tolerated.

"Detectives are trawling though CCTV to try to identify the culprits."
