The Health Secretary says Stafford hospital's A & E will re-open in June.
The department has been shut overnight since December because of staff shortages, but that issue is now being addressed.
Andrew Lansley was speaking on a visit to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire which has seen an increase in patients.
