Fire service unveils new vehicle

Sunday, April 29th 2012 14:00

The fire service in Staffordshire has unveiled its latest vehicle in Cannock.

The Unimog appliance is designed to deal with woodland fires and animal rescues.

It carries 2 thousand litres of water and 100 litres of firefighting foam and can travel through water over a metre deep.

Cannock Station Manager, Ian Broadhead said: "On the Chase we get a lot of woodland fires and animal rescues and so this vehicle has been designed specifically to deal with these types of incidents. It can get to areas that a normal fire engine wouldn't be able to get to and also carries equipment specifically for dealing with animal rescues."

Ten firefighters have been trained to use the new vehicle which replaces a Landrover that was previously based at Cannock station.
