£2.5m makeover to transform ex-care home into respite facility

A former Stoke-on-Trent care home's been transformed into somewhere for people with learning disabilities to stay.

The Meadows in Bentilee provides accommodation and support for up to 12 people, who will be able to stay for a few days or a couple of weeks at a time.

It gives them a chance for a break, as well as their carers.

The facility was designed with the help of those who will be using it and their families, with work carried out in stages to allow people to stay at the centre throughout.

It was officially opened by Lord Mayor Anthony Munday, in one of his final engagements in the role.
