Crewe's on loan midfielder Conor Grant is to see a neurologist twice before he can return to action.
The 22 year-old was knocked unconscious in the game at Grimsby Town on Saturday.
Play was held up for eight minutes while the youngster received treatment from head physio Rob Sharp and the medical staff at Grimsby.
He was then taken to hospital before being allowed home on the same night.
Grant will miss the weekend visit of Chesterfield, but could get the green light to resume playing again if medical advice allows.
He could be part of a system known as ‘acceleration pathway’ to return earlier than the recommended two weeks but boss Dave Artell will seek the advice of the neurologist before making any decision.
